Just
days before the widely publicized hanging of former Iraqi President
Saddam Hussein, Pir Salman Gailani; grandson of Al Naqib Al Ashraaf
Hadrat Pir Ibrahim Al Gailani (rah); the Honorable Custodian of the
Mosque and Tomb of Ghawth al-Adham Shaykh Abd al -Qadir Jilani (rad) in Baghdad,
met with ASFC Chairman Sayyid Ahmed Amiruddin at his family home in Hyderabad,
India.
Pir Salman’s father, H.E. The Honorable Shaykh Pir Najmuddin Al Gailani (rah) was the grand successor of his father Al Naqib Al Ashraaf Pir Ibrahim Al Gailani (rah) who was venerated throughout the world and in Iraq as a great Saint of the Qadri Order and a direct descendent and Successor of Shaykh Abd al-Qadir Jilani (rad). However, the former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein prevented him from assuming his rightful office and instead appointed a council to decide who would succeed the Shaykh, openly disregarding the death wish of the great Qadri Saint of the Holy Prophet Muhammad’s bloodline. This act of transgression on behalf of the former President resulted in Pir Najmuddin Al Gailani (rah) having to eventually leave his family home and rightful office in Baghdad and migrate to Pakistan, where he had hundreds of thousands of followers from all walks of life and where he raised his son Pir Salman.
ASFC Chairman Sayyid Ahmed Amiruddin recalled the advice of H.E. Mawlana Shaykh Muhammad Nazim Adil Al Haqqani, the Grand Mufti of Turkish Cyprus, to the people of Iraq who are living under the foreign occupation and indiscriminate aggression,
“I am asking the Iraqi people as to why they are killing each other and they say that the Americans or the Germans or the English have come into their country and that they are fighting them. I am saying you cannot fight them and that you should go to Gailani Sultan (the Tomb of Shaykh Muhiyyuddin Abd al-Qadir Jilani in Baghdad, Iraq) and ask him, “Oh Sultan, you are a big one in the Divine Presence. Please ask forgiveness for ourselves and ask our Lord’s blessings to save us from these people who have come into our country.”
When asked what he thought of the former President of Iraq, Pir Salman merely replied, “I am surprised they have not executed him as of yet”.

Saddam’s blatant disregard for the sanctity of the appointment of Pir Najmuddin as his successor by Al Naqib Al Ashraaf Pir Ibrahim Al Gailani, the most influential Sunni Shaykh in Iraq of his time, and the Spiritual Head of Iraq’s Sunni Muslims did not end at that, rather the former President of Iraq ignored the advice of the present custodians of the shrine in Baghdad, and in between 2001-’02, had the body of Al Naqib Al Ashraf (rah) exhumed and buried elsewhere, while he was having the Mosque and Tomb of Shaykh Abd al-Qadir Jilani renovated.
Indo-Arab League Chairman, Syed Vicaruddin, who visited Iraq and the auspicious tomb of Shaykh Abd Al Qadir Jilani, more than twenty five times on official invitations from the former Iraqi government and met with the former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein three times remarked to the ASFC Chairman, “On my last visit to Iraq, which was on the invitation of the former Iraqi government, I observed that while H.E. the President of Iraq Saddam Hussein was having the great Mosque and Tomb of Shaykh Abd al-Qadir renovated, he ordered that the grave of Naqib Al Ashraf, be exhumed and he be buried elsewhere in the Dergah. The moment I saw what had been done, the first words which came from my mouth were, "it is actions like these which result in the toppling of governments Within a year, Iraq was invaded illegally by the Americans and H.E. the former President of Iraq was deposed and hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqi’s lost their lives to the aggression."
When asked for his opinion about the execution of former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, the ASFC Chairman replied "Our Canadian Government disagreed with United States of America when it came to invade Iraq, which according to United Nations was illegal, so how can we accept the brutal hanging of a sovereign nation's president by illegal invading army? Nevertheless, it is my belief that Saddam Hussein wouldn't have met such a fate at the hands of his enemies had he made more of an effort to appease the Awliya and al-Abdaal of Iraq, whom he seemed to have offended through his actions."
