The ASFC was founded under the guidance and Islamic investiture (Ijazah) of the Grand Mufti of Cyprus H.E. Shaykh As-Sayyid Muhammad Nazim Adil al Haqqani, the Fortieth Grand Master of the Most Distinguished Naqshbandi Sufi Order, which traces its spiritual lineage back to the Holy Prophet Muhammad ibn Abdullah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family).
The ASFC operates under the auspice of Shaykh as-Sayyid Ahmed Amiruddin al-Husayni; a Deputy of H.E. the Grand Mufti of Cyprus. By sect, the ASFC belongs to the Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jama'ah and by Madhab it proliferates the Hanafi school. In conduct, its Board of Directors are initiates of Tasawwuf (Sufism). Scholastically, as an organization, its background is Maturidi and in Sulook, Naqshbandi and Qadiri-rather it accepts all Sufi Orders. In essentials and beliefs, the organization accepts Imam Abul Hasan Ash'ari and Imam Abu Mansur Maturidi, in sub-principles Imam Abu Hanifa.
